APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
An invalid LParID will result in a "Node not found" error which makes the IBM.HWCTLRM request the lib to reopen the event socket repeatedly. In libhmc_power.so, when it receives a request to reopen the event socket, it will reopen a new event socket even when the previous opened event socket is still active. The old socket is replaced by the new socket and the old will never be closed.
Local fix
Problem summary
There are certain conditions, including an invalid LParID, which cause IBM.HWCTRLRM to reopen an event socket even though an event socket is still open. In this situation the old socket is never closed. netstat -a will show these socket connections in a CLOSE_WAIT state.
Problem conclusion
Instances when event sockets were not being closed have been corrected. In addition, before reopening an event socket, IBM.HWCTRLRM will now verify that the socket has been closed, and if it hasn't, it will close it.
Temporary fix
