Problem summary
On a future system, the firmware can display an error of BA188000 when an 8 or 128 port async PCI adapter is in the machine with the driver loaded but the microcode in /usr/lib/microcode has not been installed or deleted.
Problem conclusion
The error path after the microcode has been discovered to not exist touchs the adapter to turn it off before EEH has been set up. The touch of the adapter before EEH is set up is the real error the firmware is report. The solution is to make sure EEH is set up before touching the adapter.
