IY44759: AIXOS_WORKQ_WAITTIME() RETURNS NEGATIVE VALUE

A fix is available

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • harmad uses AIX system call times() which returns the
    number of clock ticks. This number overflows the used
    integer variable, resulting in a negative number.
    This happens if a node is up for more than 248 days.
    I the file /var/ha/run/haem*/aixos/harmad.trace entries
    like:
    aixos_workq_waittime() returned: return value = -673212.
    are logged.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • If a system has been up for more than 245 days, the AIX
    system call times which returns the number of clock ticks
    can return a negative number which causes the harmad
    daemon to not poll the system correctly. As a result
    registered events that are triggered, might not be
    recognized.

Problem conclusion

  • harmad has been modified to better handle a system
    that has been up for more than 245 days.
