APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • If the user's login password was encrypted with Blowfish
algorithm (pwd_algorithm = sblowfish) and then upgraded
system to AIX 7.1.3.3 or 6.1.9.3, user can not login
after the upgrade.

Local fix

  • Recovering the root password and then changing
other user password

Problem summary

* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

* Install APAR IV62886.

Problem conclusion

  • Added a new option in the /etc/security/pwdalg.cfg file under
blowfish stanza. When this option is set, it uses the standard
blowfish algorithm,which allows the repeated string in the
password. Otherwise it uses the default blowfish algorithm.
