Error description

  • Changing rtentry_lock_complex in some cases
will shift the lock contention to anoter place
in the networking code. In some cases this may reduce
network throughput and improver in others.

Problem summary


    

  • Customer migrated their Oracle ERP from Power6 + AIX 5.3 to
Power 7+ AIX 7.1. After that, the response time was delayed.
Customer observes high system CPU usage is due to heavy lock
contention. About 5.61% cpu is utilized to acquire
drw write lock.

    



Problem conclusion


    

  • Code is modified to take write lock only when route expire
value is getting modified. While reading, read lock is held.
This change avoids the lock contention
