Error description

  • The symptom is a client using SCTP may attempt to fail
    over
to the local server when the remote server goes down.
    This
is due to the INITACK message claiming that the local
    host
can be used which is done by adding 127.0.0.1 to the list
of addresses in the INITACK message.

The detailed symptom is to capture the INITACK message
    from
the server and examine it. It will have the local host
in it when it should not.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • SCTP connection from a remote host will fail, when there is
already one sctp connection exists(server/client on the same
    host) in the local host.

Problem conclusion

  • If the connection is between local and remote host, then remove
loop-back address from INIT and INIT-ACK packets. This will
make sure destination does not try to reach the source through
    loop-back address.
