Error description
If a non-root user tries to copy file in a relative path, where root is mapped to nobody, rcp fails. $ pwd /mygpfs/rsimon_files/c $ rcp afile <hostname>:/tmp/bfile rcp: /afile: No such file or directory This happens in a case of gpfs/nfs mounted filesystem where root squashing is enabled ie mapped to nobody. Using absolute path works fine. $ rcp /mygpfs/rsimon_files/c/afile <hostname>:/tmp/afile
Local fix
Use absolute path: > pwd /mygpfs/rsimon_files/c > rcp /mygpfs/rsimon_files/c/afile <hostname>:/tmp/afile
Problem summary

Problem conclusion
When user tries to copy a file in the relative path, the path name is expanded with correct current working directory. This causes rcp to find the file and resolves the problem.
