APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • AIX NFSv4 client with z/OS as the NFSv4 server.
When the NFSv4 server returns NFS4ERR_FHEXPIRED error the
AIX client could get in to an endless loop trying to
recover from the FHEXPIRED error. Customer will see the
n4bg threads taking up CPU on the AIX system, and could
also see performance problems on the z/OS server, due to
the heavy traffic from the AIX client.

Local fix

  • None. Reboot AIX client to overcome the error.

Problem summary

  • Performance issues on the z/OS nfsv4 server and
high cpu usage on the AIX nfsv4 client

Problem conclusion

  • Propagate the NFS4ERR_ACCES error back to caller nfs4write()
