Error description
If a multi_threaded process has one thread calling the exit() function two times, the first exit will fail to complete. For example in a thread, if exit() is called inside the function pointed to by atexit(), the thread will hang.

Problem conclusion
Relevant code changes are done to prevent the thread from going into the loop and thus avoid the hang.
