Error description

  • =============
    
    While trying to configure an interface, the call has a return
    value of 1 and the following error message is displayed:
    
    # ifconfig en1 up 0821-510 ifconfig: error calling entry point
    for /usr/lib/drivers/if_en: There is not enough space in the
    file system.
    
    
    Using smitty mktcpip, the following error was noticed :
    
    en1 parrot.in.ibm.com inet0 changed Method error
    (/usr/lib/methods/chgif):  0514-068 Cause not known.  0821-510
    ifconfig: error calling entry point for /usr/lib/drivers/if_en:
    There is not enough space in the file system.  0821-103 : The
    command /usr/sbin/ifconfig en1 inet 10.10.210.191 arp netmask
    255.255.255.0 mtu 1500 up -largesend -monitor -t hread failed.
    0821-007 cfgif: ifconfig command failed.  The status of"en1"
    Interface in the current running system is uncertain.  0821-103
    : The command /usr/lib/methods/cfgif -len1 failed.  0821-510

    About 300 tap devices were created and this issue was noticed.
    However, even after deleting the tap devices (rmdev -dl), this

Problem conclusion

  • Update ifconfig to catch ENOSPC error condition and print a
    0 re useful error message.
