Error description
Active mode ftp (client) file transfer sub commands may hang. Certain FTP servers--- one that immediately give up when there is an attempt to reuse a very recently used TCP destination/port -- send a termination message that AIX client fails to act on, continues to wait for a connection that will never arrive.

Problem summary
Certain active mode ftp(client) file transfer sub commands like mget, mput, etc may hang.
Problem conclusion
Modified ftp client code to properly handle the error code sent by the server, avoiding the hang.
