Content

The following Questions/Answers are from the December 6th, 2018 Webinar with IBM Spectrum Protect Support Engineers to discuss "Spectrum Protect server container storage pool".

Q1: Can we use tapes for container pool?

>>Yes, you can use tapes in container pool but as copy container pool

Q2: If we use copy container storage pool, Are we going to directly move data from disk to copy?

>>Yes, from disk container to copy container can be tape pool, that means dedup data sent to tape from container pool.

Q3: Can we convert our existing disk/file storage pools to container storage pools right?

>>Yes, you can use “convert stgpool” command to convert disk/file/tape pool into container pool.

CONVERT STGPOOL (Convert a storage pool to a container storage pool)

Q4: What all cloud providers are supported?

>>Reference the following technote link that lists supported cloud provider.

IBM Spectrum Protect cloud object storage support

Q5: Can you please explain more about data extents in container storage pool?

>> Extents are pieces of data stored in containers. There are deduplicated extents and non-dedup extents.

Q6: If I want to make copy of my primary container stgpool on Tape , Is it possible?

>> Yes, it is possible. You need to define a copy container pool on local server. Reference the following link to define copy container pool:

DEFINE STGPOOL (Define a container-copy storage pool)

Q7: Will the data directly backup to cloud container pools from client or first we need to backup into primary disk container and then make a copy to cloud container?

>> You can configure IBM Spectrum Protect server to temporarily store data in one or more local storage pool directories during data ingestion. The data is then automatically moved from local storage to the cloud. In this way, you can improve data backup and archive performance.

Q8: Can I have two copies of primary container pool data?

>>Yes, you can. One copy in tape pool (local server) and another copy you can make it on replication server.

Q9: Can I have tape pool as primary container pool?

>>No.
