Abstract

This article describes the configuration steps to use the technical preview version of the InfoSphere MDM operational cache feature. This technical preview is available from IBM Fix Central alongside the InfoSphere MDM Advanced Edition Version 11.6.0.8 product release.

Note: Technical previews are not yet fully supported product features. Use this preview to evaluate, test, and provide feedback to IBM about this feature.

Technical Preview: Operational cache

The InfoSphere MDM operational cache technical preview provides you with fast access to master data in a highly scalable and concurrent access pattern.

Important: This feature is provided alongside InfoSphere MDM V11.6.0.8 as a technical preview only. The intention is for this capability to be included as a full InfoSphere MDM product feature in a future release. Use this preview to evaluate, test, and provide feedback to IBM about this feature.

Overview

Today's organizations are realizing the benefits that master data brings to their mobile and online applications. To do so effectively requires very fast access to master data in a highly scalable and concurrent access pattern, supporting geographically distributed data centers.

The InfoSphere MDM operational cache capability is designed to meet this requirement with REST APIs providing read access to master data. The REST APIs support text searches and queries against a graph database engine on Cassandra using the Gremlin graph query language.

With this configuration, the operational cache can serve read requests, while write requests can continue to be routed to the central InfoSphere MDM operational server to maintain global de-duplication processes for managing entities and golden records.

Operational cache works with the IBM MDM Publisher component to allow for subscriptions to all, or subsets of, the master data. Synchronization will be made possible through the Kafka messaging platform. Once the subscriptions are configured using a web user interface, the IBM MDM Publisher generates and deploys the necessary data movement capabilities.

Different operational cache instances can have subscriptions with different data scopes, providing you with the flexibility to replicate master data to the relevant operational cache instance for each respective application.

Operational cache instances will also have continuous availability built-in through Kubernetes integration with high availability for intra-data center events and disaster recovery functionality across data centers. Operational cache is delivered in Docker containers on InfoSphere MDM for zero-downtime upgrade capability.

The technical preview of the operational cache and IBM MDM Publisher are provided alongside InfoSphere MDM Version 11.6.0.8. This technical preview includes a subset of the above-described capabilities. The technical preview includes:

  • A Docker image containing the MDM Bulk Publisher (without the ability to provide ongoing synchronization).
  • A Docker image containing the operational cache, including fully functional REST APIs and Gremlin Query APIs, Solr (for fast text searches), and Cassandra.

Important: The Publisher on going sync, Operational Cache high availability, disaster recovery, and continuous availability features are not included in the technical preview.

Configuring the operational cache

See the attached PDF documents for detailed information about configuring the operational cache capability.
