General

Before registering each Db2 in IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, ensure it meets the following requirements.

IBM Db2 Database Configuration Requirements

Database Versions

  • IBM® Db2® Version 10.5 and later maintenance levels and mod levels: Enterprise Server Edition only

  • IBM® Db2® Version 11.1 and later maintenance levels and mod levels: Enterprise Server Edition only.

Operating Systems

  • On PowerPC

    • AIX 7.1 higher mod and fix pack levels (64-bit kernel)

    • AIX 7.2 higher mod and fix pack levels (64-bit kernel)

  • On Linux x86_x64

    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.8 and later maintenance levels and mod levels: Server Edition

    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 and later maintenance levels and mod levels: Server Edition

    • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11.0 SP4 and later maintenance levels and mod levels: Server Edition

    • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12.0 SP1 and later maintenance levels and mod levels: Server Edition

Additional Notes

Install the latest IBM Db2 patches and updates in your environment.

Ensure that your Db2 environment is configured to meet the following criteria:

  • Db2 is configured for single partitioned databases only. Backups of multi-partition IBM Db2 databases are not supported.

  • Db2 archive logging is activated.

  • Logical volumes of DB2 tablespaces (data and temporary tablespaces), local database directory and DB2 log files are managed by Linux Logical Volume Manager(LVM2) or by AIX Logical Volume Manager (JFS2).

  • While DB2 tablespaces and the local database directory could both be residing on the same logical volumes it needs to be ensured to have the DB2 log files residing on separated, dedicated logical volumes (or volumes group).

  • Db2 pureScale is not supported.

Software

  • The bash and sudo packages must be installed. Sudo must be version 1.7.6p2 or above. Run sudo -V to check the version.

  • Python version 2.6.x or 2.7.x must be installed.

  • Ensure the supported version of of Linux x86_64, or AIX® is installed.

  • LVM2 on Linux and JFS2 on AIX are used for creating temporary volume snapshots . For more information, see IBM Knowledge Center under LVM2 and JFS2

  • On AIX, ensure that the NFS communication is configured with reserved ports by using the command:  nfso -p -o nfs_use_reserved_port=1.

Connectivity

Ensure that the following connectivity criteria are in place:

  • SSH service is running on port 22 on the server.

  • Firewalls must be configured to allow IBM Spectrum Protect Plus to connect to the server using SSH.

  • The SFTP subsystem for SSH is enabled.

  • The server can be registered using a DNS name or IP address. DNS names must be resolvable by IBM Spectrum Protect Plus.

Authentication and Privileges

  • The DB2 server must be registered in IBM Spectrum Protect Plus using an operating system user that exists on the DB2 server (referred to as "IBM Spectrum Protect Plus agent user" for the rest of this topic).

  • Ensure the password is correctly configured and that the user can log in without facing any other prompts, such as prompts to reset the password.

The IBM Spectrum Protect Plus agent user must have the following privileges:

  • Privileges to run commands as root and as DB2 software owner users using sudo. IBM Spectrum Protect Plus requires this for various tasks such as discovering storage layouts, mounting and unmounting disks, and managing databases.

    • The sudoers configuration must allow the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus agent user to run commands without a password.

    • The !requiretty setting must be set.

  • Privileges to read the DB2 inventory using /usr/local/bin/db2ls. IBM Spectrum Protect Plus requires this to discover and collect information about  Db2 instances and databases.

Db2 Ports

The following ports are used by Db2 servers. Note that ports marked as Accept use a secure connection (https/ssl).

Incoming Db2 Server Firewall Connections
Port Protocol Firewall Rule Service Description
22 TCP Accept SSH Used for SSH data transfer to and from the internal vSnap server.

Outgoing Db2 Server Firewall Connections
Port Protocol Service Description
111 TCP vSnap RPC Port Bind Allows clients to discover ports that Open Network Connectivity (ONC) clients require to communicate with ONC servers.
2049 TCP vSnap NFS Used for NFS file sharing via vSnap.
20048 TCP vSnap NFS Mount Mounts vSnap file systems on clients such as the VADP Proxy, application servers, and virtualization data stores.
