IC83004: VIOS agent instability causing no metric data

This fix will install the following filesets:

• sysmgt.cim.providers.metrics 1.2.9.37
• sysmgt.cim.providers.osbase 1.2.9.37
• sysmgt.cim.providers.scc 1.2.9.37
• sysmgt.cim.providers.smash 1.2.9.37

Installation

Follow these steps to apply this fix.

1. Log in to VIOS as padmin .
2. Run the following command to check the IOSLEVEL
   $ ioslevel
   
   For Fix IC83004 the output must be:
   2.2.1.4
   
   Do not apply the above fix to a VIOS at any other level except the levels specified for the package. If your VIOS is at a pre-2.2.1.4 level and experiences the problem, you should upgrade your VIOS to 2.2.1.4 first before applying the fix.
3. Download the VIOS_2.2.1.4_IC83004_IZ94423_Fix.tar.gz file from FixCentral to a non-VIOS system of your choice.
4. Extract the tar.gz file:
   $ gzip -cd VIOS_2.2.1.4_IC83004_IZ94423_Fix.tar.gz | tar -xvf -
   
   The following files will be extracted:

   sysmgt.cim.providers.1.2.9.37.bff
   cas.agent.1.4.2.43.bff

5. Log in to the VIOS with padmin user. You are in the /home/padmin directory.
6. FTP the two bff files to directory /home/padmin<directory_name > . Create <directory_name > during the FTP session by using mkdir <directory_name >
7. Commit previous updates by running the following command:
   $ updateios -commit
8. Next, apply the update by running the following command
   $ updateios -accept -install -dev /home/padmin/<directory_name >
9. The fix installation process produces output for the "Operation summary" of the updateios command. This output includes an installation preview; a prompt to continue installation; output of the command processing; and a final report of the installation of the fix(es).
   
   Follow the prompts during command processing to install the fix(es).

List of fixes

• Fix IC83004 - VIOS AGENT INSTABILITY CAUSING NO METRIC DATA for VIOS for IOSLEVEL 2.2.1.4

  This problem can cause the following behavior in IBM Systems Director::

  • A threshold set for a monitor is met without notification.
  • VIOS monitors are displayed with "No Data Available".
  • VIOS monitors group is displayed as an empty screen trying to load the metrics but does not finish doing so.

  In the Director log files in /opt/ibm/director/agent/logs, the following message can be observed: "CIM_ERR_FAILED: Connection closed by CIM Server."
