Problem

This technote explains why attempts to install IBM® Rational® ClearCase®, IBM Rational ClearCase LT® or IBM Rational ClearQuest® 7.0 on AIX® results in the error, []****Unsupported C++ Runtime: X.X.X.X fileset xlC.rte 7.0.0.1 or greater required****[], along with steps to resolve the issue.

Symptom


The following error is reported during an attempt to install ClearCase, ClearCase LT or ClearQuest 7.0 on AIX:

Unsupported C++ Runtime: X.X.X.X fileset xlC.rte 7.0.0.1 or greater required

Cause


If the system was not going to host ClearCase initially, these libraries might not be installed.

Resolving The Problem


The correct version of the xlC.rte fileset (7.0.0.1 or greater) is needed in order to acquire a compatible version of libC.a on your system to install and use ClearCase, ClearCase LT or ClearQuest.

Locate, download and install the latest version of xlC.rte for your AIX host and then proceed to install your Rational 7.0 product.
