Collecting data for DB2 hang on HP-UX

Question & Answer

Question

What information should be collected when I experience a hang issue with my DB2 software? Collecting this information before calling IBM support will help you understand the problem and save time analyzing the data.

Answer

The following is for a single partition (or a non-partitioned database environment). You may collect the following on the problematic nodes in a DPF environment. Alternatively you may contact DB2 Technical support for further questions.

DB2 V8 and DB2 V9.1 :

Please note that when a DB2 instance or database is hung or is not responsive most db2 commands could hang, including the db2service.perf1. In such cases please contact DB2 Technical Support for directions specific to your scenario.

Process/Stack information:

>> Please run the attached db2service.perf1 script as Instance Owner <<

Example:

db2service.perf1 <database1> <database2> ...

Further instructions about this script are included in the script itself.

DB2 V9.5 :

Please run the following command to collect diagnostic information for hang issues on DB2 V9.5

db2fodc -hang

Db2support.zip information:

The db2service.perf1 dumps process stacks as trap files in the db2dump directory. Please collect a db2support.zip (after stacks are dumped).

db2support . -d <database> -s

Submitting diagnostic information to IBM Technical Support for problem determination

NOTE:
The attached script is specific to the HP-UX operating system. Running this script can cause significant performance degradation, especially on busy systems with a high number of active connections.
