Notes:
- The Tivoli Dynamic Workload Console and the Job Scheduling Console are included in this table to aid you in planning. Their hardware and software requirements are documented in the following documents:
- InstallShield installation on Linux operating systems needs the bc utility to be installed. For further information see http://community.installshield.com/archive.
Supported operating systems for the prerequisite database
Tivoli Workload Scheduler requires the use of either the DB2® or the Oracle relational database. The supported operating systems are as follows:
- DB2
- Tivoli Workload Scheduler requires version 9.1 or 9.5 of DB2
Note: Support for version 8.2 (or 8.1 with Fix Pack 7) or later, of DB2 is continued only for the completion of the upgrade of Tivoli Workload Scheduler from version 8.3 or 8.4. After the upgrade is completed, the database must be upgraded or migrated to a supported level. This is because versions of DB2 prior to 9.1 are no longer current, and support cannot be offered if problems occur when using them.
- Bundled DB2
- Tivoli Workload Scheduler is supplied with a version of the DB2 server
and client for the supported operating systems. This version can be
installed by you separately before the product installation using the
launchpad. Refer to Table 4 for details about
the DB2 bundled versions for each of the supported operating system,
and the operating systems patch levels required.
- Note:
- The bundled version of DB2 is provided solely for use with Tivoli Workload Scheduler (see the product license for details).
To determine the supported operating systems for a version of DB2 other than the bundled version, see the DB2 documentation.
- Oracle
- Tivoli Workload Scheduler requires the use of the following versions of
Oracle, with or without the partitioning option installed (using Oracle
without the partitioning option affects the event driven workload scheduling
performance):
- Oracle Database 10g Release 2 - Standard Edition (10.2.0.x) or later. This version does not support the partitioning feature.
- Oracle Database 10g Release 2 - Enterprise Edition (10.2.0.x) or later
- Oracle Database 11g Release 1 - Standard Edition (11.1.0.x) or later. This version does not support the partitioning feature.
- Oracle Database 11g Release 1 - Enterprise Edition (11.1.0.x) or later
The Oracle database software is not supplied with Tivoli Workload Scheduler. You must use your own version of the Oracle database software. For a complete list of supported operating systems for Oracle see the Oracle documentation.
Note: Support for 9i Release 2 Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition of Oracle is continued only for the completion of the upgrade of Tivoli Workload Scheduler from version 8.3 or 8.4. After the upgrade is completed, the database must be upgraded or migrated to a supported level. This is because versions of Oracle prior 10g Release 2 are no longer current, and support cannot be offered if problems occur when using them.
Supported operating systems for the bundled application server
Tivoli Workload Scheduler installs, or upgrades to, the embedded version of IBM WebSphere Application Server, V6.1.0.19, base version, with Fix Pack FP0000019, and fixes IFPK70813, IFPK72743, and IFPK53569 installed, on the Integrated Solutions Console V7.0.1.6. All operating systems supported by Tivoli Workload Scheduler are supported by the application server, which is installed automatically. In the information relating to hardware and memory requirements in this document, the application server is treated as part of Tivoli Workload Scheduler, and its requirements are not listed separately.
- Note:
- The embedded WebSphere Application Server is provided solely for use with Tivoli Workload Scheduler (see the product license for details). This version has no limit on the number of CPUs on which it can be installed.

- Space for RDBMS: These
disk space requirements do not include the space required for the RDBMS software
you have chosen, details of which can be obtained from the documentation of
the support.
Nor do they include the additional space requirement for the base support of Tivoli Workload Scheduler (without scheduling data), which is 240 MB, divided as follows:
- 200 megabytes in the DB2 installation path
- 20 megabytes in the data tablespace path
- 20 megabytes in the reports tablespace path
- Space for integrated installation:
A Tivoli Workload Scheduler component and the Tivoli Dynamic Workload
Console can be installed together in an integrated installation where
they share, among other things, an instance of the embedded WebSphere Application
Server. This integrated installation is called a Tivoli Workload Automation
instance.
The values indicated for the MDM, BKM, and CONN in Table 6 are for the installation of a Tivoli Workload Scheduler component not integrated with the Tivoli Dynamic Workload Console, and include the instance of the embedded WebSphere Application Server. The corresponding figures in the Tivoli Dynamic Workload Console system requirements document (for an installation on the embedded WebSphere Application Server) also include the space required for the instance of the embedded WebSphere Application Server.
Therefore, if you plan to install a Tivoli Workload Scheduler component in a Tivoli Workload Automation instance together with the console (integrated installation), the disk space required is indicated in Table 8:
Table 8: Disk space (MB) required for integrated installation of a TWS component and the TDWC
Operating system MDM or BKM + TDWC FTA + CONN + TDWC AIX 1265 1060 HP-UX 1365 1075 Linux 1250 1070 Solaris 1315 1105 Windows 1155 1045 Note that it is also possible to install a Tivoli Workload Scheduler component and the Tivoli Dynamic Workload Console in separate Tivoli Workload Automation instances, in which case each will have its own version of the embedded WebSphere Application Server, and you must sum the figure in Table 6 with the corresponding figure for the console.
- Command-line client language pack: The Command-line Client language pack installation requires 5 MB on all platforms.
- Space requirements for operating Tivoli Workload
Scheduler: Table 6 and Table 7 do not include the
space required to operate Tivoli Workload Scheduler. For this you must consider
the additional space required for the following:
- Database data
- Symphony file
- Archive files (and their retention period)
- Log files (and their retention period)
- Temporary files that are placed on the local hard drive
- Files associated with the jobs managed by Tivoli Workload Scheduler
The space required is very subjective and depends on how you use Tivoli Workload Scheduler. If you are already a user of the product, you will have an idea of how much space it currently occupies. However, you should bear in mind that each version of the system uses more disk space than the previous one. If you are a new user you will probably set up a test system to help you grow familiar with the product and you should be able to scale up the operating space requirements of the test system to give you an indication of how much space you will be using in a fully functional live system.
Temporary space requirements
Table 6 and Table 7 do not include the space requirements for the temporary installation files. These depend on the component you are installing, and are given in Table 9:
Table 9: Temporary disk spaceOperating system type | MDM or BKM | FTA | CONN | CLI | CLI LP |
UNIX® | 170 | 40 | 40 | ||
Windows | 70 | 20 | 20 |
Virtual memory swap space requirements
Neither Table 6 nor Table 7 nor Table 9 include the requirements for the virtual memory file (sometimes called page file or swap space). Tivoli Workload Scheduler requires a minimum of 1 GB of virtual memory swap space (recommended level is 2 GB) on the file system of any operating system.
Memory requirements
Table 10 summarizes the memory requirements for the various components, on all operating systems:
Table 10: MemoryMemory | MDM or BKM (see note 1) |
FTA |
CLI |
CONN (see note 1) |
Recommended | 2048 | 512 | 256 | 1536 |
Required | 1024 | 256 | 256 | 1024 |
- Note
- Memory for integrated installation: The
values indicated in Table 8 for the MDM, BKM, and
CONN, are for using a Tivoli Workload Scheduler component not integrated with
the Tivoli Dynamic Workload Console, and include the embedded WebSphere Application
Server. If you are using both a Tivoli Workload Scheduler component and the
console in the same Tivoli Workload Automation instance, the memory requirement
is the larger of the Tivoli Workload Scheduler and the console memory
values (see the console's detailed system requirements document), not the
sum.
If you have installed more than one instance of Tivoli Workload Automation, to calculate the overall memory requirement use the sum of the memory requirements of each instance.
