Controlling which search result fields are displayed in the Search portlet for enterprise search

Question

When setting up the Search portlet for enterprise search in WebSphere Portal Version 6, is it possible to prevent some fields from being displayed in the search results? For example, is there a way to suppress the display of the author or revisionuser fields?

Answer

To control which fields are displayed in the search results when you run the Search portlet for enterprise search in WebSphere Portal:

  1. Log on to WebSphere Portal with the Portal administrator ID and password.
  2. Click Administration.
  3. Click Portlet Management in the navigation area, and then click Portlets.
  4. Change the Search by option to Title contains.
  5. In the Search field, type enterprise search and then click Search.
  6. After new icons are displayed, click the wrench icon to configure the Search portlet for enterprise search.
  7. In the list of portlet parameters, find the fields.URI_prefix parameters and remove the field names that you do not want to be displayed in the search results.

    For example, if you search IBM Web Content Management (WCM) content and do not want to see the modifier field in the search results, locate the fields.wcm parameter and remove modifier from the value.

  8. Click OK to save your changes.
  9. Run a search with the Search portlet for enterprise search and confirm that the change is reflected in the search results.
