Problem summary

    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application *
    *                  Server V7.0 and V8.0 using Built-In Mapping *
    * for Kerberos principal to RACF ID. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Mapping Kerberos principal to RACF ID *
    * fails in some configurations. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Mapping Kerberos principal to RACF ID fails when the Kerberos
    principal does not exist in the local zOS Key Distribution
    Center (KDC) or when the mapping is for SPNEGO Web
    Authentication.

Problem conclusion

  • The code was corrected to properly handle Kerbero principals
    from non-z/OS KDCs. It was also corrected to properly map for
    SPNEGO Web Authentication. The following security custom
    property should be set to do the mapping for SPNEGO:

    com.ibm.websphere.security.spnego.useBuiltInMappingToSAF=true

    Note that if Kerberos Authentication is used in combination
    with SPNEGO Web Authentication, configuring Built-in Mapping
    for either Kerberos or SPNEGO will result in mapping being done
    for both.

    APAR PM38019 requires a change to documentation.

    NOTE: Periodically, we refresh the documentation on our
    Web site, so the changes might have been made before you
    read this text. To access the latest on-line
    documentation, go to the product library page at:

    http://www.ibm.com/software/webservers/appserv/library

    The following change to the WebSphere Application Server
    Version 7.0 Information Center will be made available in
    January 2012.

    The following descriptions of a new security custom
    properties will be added to the "Security custom
    properties" topic:

    com.ibm.websphere.security.spnego.useBuiltInMappingToSAF

    This property is used to ensure that a mapping from a
    Kerberos principal to a RACF ID is performed for
    SPNEGO web authentication.

    If you do not add this property to your security settings,
    and set it to true, a mapping from a Kerberos principal
    to a RACF ID is not performed for SPNEGO web
    authentication.

    Avoid trouble: If Kerberos authentication is used in
    combination with SPNEGO Web authentication, configuring
    a built-in mapping for either Kerberos or SPNEGO results
    in a mapping being done for both.

    Default: false

    APAR PM38019 is currently targeted for inclusion in
    Service Level 7.0.0.21 and 8.0.0.2 of WebSphere
    Application Server.
