Error description

  • The customer wanted the same functionality as using the
    MonitoringPolicy on distributed operating systems
    .
L2 had the customer enable the following traces for
    troubleshooting:
    On the DeploymentManager (dmgr)
    com.ibm.ws.management.status.*=all:
    com.ibm.ws.management.wlm.*=all:
    com.ibm.ws.console.app*=all
    .
    On nodeagent as
    com.ibm.ws.management.status.*=all
    .
    On appserver as
    com.ibm.ws.management.status.*=all:Runtime=all
    .

    ****************************************************************
The node agent will restart the server after stopImmediate is
run on z/OS when autoRestart is set to true because the PID
    file is not removed.

Problem conclusion

  • Remove the PID file when stopImmediate is run on a server and
    the cell level custom property
    com.ibm.websphere.process.terminator.deletepid is set to true
on z/OS. This happens automatically on distributed platforms
but not on z/OS. This prevents the node agent from restarting
    the server.

APAR PM15744 requires changes to documentation.

NOTE: Periodically, we refresh the documentation on our
Web site, so the changes might have been made before you
read this text. To access the latest on-line
documentation, go to the product library page at:

    http://www.ibm.com/software/webservers/appserv/library

The following changes to the WebSphere Application Server
Version 7.0 Information Center will be made available in
    June, 2010.

    The following description of the
    com.ibm.websphere.process.teminator.deletepid custom
property will be added to the "Cell custom properties"
    topic:

    com.ibm.websphere.process.terminator.deletepid

By default, the autoRestart attribute for the server
monitoring policy is set to false because the Automatic
Restart Management (ARM) is typically used to manage
automatic restarts of the application servers. The
autoRestart attribute for the server monitoring policy
is defined in the server.xml file.

If you do not want to use ARM to manage your server
automatic restarts, and you changed the setting for the
autoRestart attribute to true, you must also add the
    com.ibm.websphere.process.teminator.deletepid cell custom
property to your cell configuration settings and set
this property to true. If you only change the setting on the
autoRestart attribute, the server keeps restarting in
    response to a stopImmediate command.

    Property com.ibm.websphere.process.terminator.deletepid
    Data type Boolean
    Default False

APAR PM15744 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service
Level (Fix Pack) 7.0.0.11 of WebSphere Application Server V7.0.
