    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: You can set the directory where *
    * temporary attachment copies are cached. *
    *                                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
Web services can send and receive SOAP messages with
attachments. If an attachment file exceeds 32KB in size, for
performance reasons, the web services runtime will cache a
temporary copy of the attachment to disk. Previously, the
location where these files are copied was configurable only
with the "attachments.Directory" property that is set on the
    MessageContext.

Note that you can set the
    "com.ibm.websphere.webservices.attachements.maxMemCacheSize"
custom property to override the 32KB default for caching
threshold and specify a custom value.

Problem conclusion

  • This APAR allows you to set the custom property
    "com.ibm.websphere.webservices.tempAttachDir" on the JVM to
specify where attachment copies should go. For more details on
how to perform this task, refer to the article "Java virtual
machine custom properties" in the Information Center for your
WebSphere Application Server version and operating system.

This custom property was added to WebSphere Application
    Server V7.0 under PK97891.

APAR PK97891 requires changes to documentation.

NOTE: Periodically, we refresh the documentation on our
Web site, so the changes might have been made before you
read this text. To access the latest on-line
documentation, go to the product library page at:

    http://www.ibm.com/software/webservers/appserv/library

Changes to the WebSphere Application Server Version 7.0
Information Center will be made available in
    January, 2010.

The topic "Java virtual machine custom properties" will
be updated to include the following description of the
    com.ibm.websphere.webservices.tempAttachDir custom
    property:

    com.ibm.websphere.webservices.tempAttachDir

Use this property to specify the location on a storage
device where you want the Web services runtime to cache a
copy of any attachment , that is greater than 32KB in size,
that is being sent or received as part of a SOAP message.

For performance reasons, the Web services runtime caches a
temporary copy of any SOAP message attachment that is
greater than 32KB in size. If you do not specify a value
for this property, the cached copy of the attachment is
typically sent to the default temporary directory for your
    operating system.

APAR PK97891 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service
Level (Fix Pack) 7.0.0.7 of WebSphere Application Server V7.0.
