APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When an application is deployed and mapped to a webserver,
the application binaries will be pushed to that node even if
it's not also mapped to an application server on that node.
This is unnecessary since webservers do not use the application
    binaries.

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
During WebSphere Application Server nodeSync, we have code
that will open the ServerIndex.xml file of that node, collect
all applications that are installed on all the servers of that
node and sync those applications. The problem is that we look
at "all" the servers of that node including web servers.
WebServers do not run applications as they are only modeled in
    the configuration without any runtime.
There is no need to sync applications to those nodes that
only have a WebServer running that application. When we
collect a list of apps to be sent down to the node, we should
    skip any processing of WebServers.

So during nodeSync, this fix does not look at WebServers at all
while collecting the list of applications. In other words,
during nodeSync when we collect a list of applications to be
sent down to the node, we should skip any processing of
    WebServers.

Problem conclusion

  • Source code has been modified to not distribute the
application to the nodes that only have WebServers running
    the application.

APAR PK82629 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service
Level (Fix Pack) 7.0.0.3 of WebSphere Application Server V7.0.
