How to enable IBM Content Collector features on Lotus iNotes (Domino Web Access) 8.5.x

Problem

With IBM Content Collector 2.2 or later versions, you cannot automatically enable Content Collector features on Lotus iNotes (Domino Web Access) 8.5.x.

Symptom

If you choose Forms85.nsf as enablement target database, as you would for Lotus iNotes 8.5, the feature enablement fails for Lotus iNotes 8.5.x. A severe error is reported in the initial configuration log:

Domino template deployment with error: "Code cannot be inserted into the design element of the Forms*.nsf"

Cause

In Lotus iNotes 8.5.x, all customization forms and subforms have been moved to a separate file called the Extension Forms File. The Extension Forms File (Forms85_x.nsf) is not shipped with Lotus iNotes. You must create it from a provided template (Forms85_x.ntf).
The subforms and functions that are used by IBM Content Collector are named differently in Lotus iNotes 8.5.x than in previous versions.

Resolving The Problem


Step 1: Create an Extension Forms File if your Lotus Domino 8.5.x server does not have it:

  1. In Domino Designer or the Lotus Notes client, click File -> Application -> New.
  2. In the Specify New Application Name and Location section, select your Domino server.
  3. In the File name field, enter Forms85_x.nsf. Click the folder button and select the iNotes directory under the Domino Data directory as location.
  4. In the Specify Template for New Application section, select your Domino server.
  5. Select the Show advanced templates check box.
  6. Select the Lotus iNotes Extension Forms (8.5) template (Forms85_x.ntf).
  7. Make sure that Inherit future design changes is not selected.


Step 2: Enable IBM Content Collector features on Lotus iNotes 8.5.x:
  1. Use the Content Collector Initial Configuration or the Domino Template Enablement tool to enable the Domino template. Choose Forms85_x.nsf as the target forms database.
  2. If there are IBM Content Collector client features in the current Forms85.nsf file, use the Domino Template Enablement tool to remove these design elements.
