Δ Added or changed information since the last release, modification, or fix pack. This mark in the far left column indicates new or changed information in the row.
x86 Systems with processors that support the x86 instruction set.
x86-64 Systems with processors that support the x86-64 instruction set.
POWER Systems with IBM POWER-based processors, including IBM System p, eServer pSeries, System i and eServer iSeries servers.

System size capacities

The following table provides the size capacities for small, medium, and large eDiscovery Analyzer systems.

System size Number of documents to be processed
Small Suitable for up to 250,000 total documents under management. Usually one eDiscovery Analyzer server.
Medium Suitable for up to 2 million total documents under management. Usually one or two eDiscovery Analyzer servers.
Large Suitable for up to 10 million total documents under management. Usually four eDiscovery Analyzer servers.

Memory and processors

The following table specifies basic server processor and RAM requirements for an eDiscovery Analyzer system. To optimize performance, different processor and memory configurations are suggested for small, medium, and large systems.

If your system size is large, your helper servers can be medium. If your system size is medium, your helper servers can be small.

System size Processor requirements Memory requirements
Small 2 processors per server.
64-bit recommended.
4 GB, plus 4 GB paging space.
Medium 4 processors per server.
64-bit required.
8 GB, plus 4 GB paging space.
Large Minimum 8 processors per server.
64-bit required.
16 GB, plus 4 GB paging space.

Disk space

The minimum disk space required to install eDiscovery Analyzer is 1 GB, plus 1 GB of temporary space.

The disk space requirements for running the system can vary and depend on the average document size, the number of documents in the case, and number of cases.

For a multiple server configuration, the disk space requirements affect the main server in the eDiscovery Analyzer setup, as all the case related data is stored on the main server. On the helper servers, there is no specific disk requirement other than the minimum disk requirement to install.

Required disk space must be 3 times larger than the sum of all index sizes because during an index merge, the unpacked files create two copies. The files, when merged, create an additional third copy. The first two copies are subsequentially deleted.

The following disk space requirements are suggested for the main eDiscovery Analyzer server for an average use case.

System size Disk space requirements
Small 100 GB
Medium 500 GB*
Large 1 TB*

* In multiple server configurations, the main server hosts all the case related data and indexes, therefore requiring the listed amount of space. The helper servers are used for processing power.

Fix Pack 4 Space Requirements

IBM eDiscovery Analyzer Fix Pack 4 requires the following amount of disk space:

AIX

Windows:

Server hardware and operating systems

IBM eDiscovery Analyzer requires one of the following operating systems and the associated server.

Operating system x86 x86-64 POWER Notes
AIX® V6.1 (64-bit) Supported on POWER

Minimum: One two-way POWER server.
Requires IBM C Compiler V9.0.0.1 or later.
To determine the version of C runtime libraries that you have, enter this command: lslpp -l | grep -i xlc

AIX V5.3 TL 7 or later (64-bit) Supported on POWER

Minimum: One two-way POWER server.
Requires IBM C Compiler V9.0.0.1 or later.
To determine the version of C runtime libraries that you have, enter this command: lslpp -l | grep -i xlc

Microsoft Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2 Supported on x86 Supported on x86-64

Minimum: One server with two or more processors.

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2 or R2 Supported on x86 Supported on x86-64

Minimum: One server with two or more processors.

Software

IBM eDiscovery Analyzer requires IBM eDiscovery Manager Version 2.2 Fix Pack 4, AIX or Windows, as a prerequisite.

Content management servers

IBM eDiscovery Analyzer must be configured to connect to a content management server that contains cases created in IBM eDiscovery Manager.

For a complete list of the supported content management servers and supported content archives, refer to the System requirements for IBM eDiscovery Manager Version 2.2 Fix Pack 4.

Virtualization support

IBM eDiscovery Analyzer is supported running within VMWare ESX, IBM PowerVM Hypervisor, and some configurations of AIX workload configurations.

Note: In all virtual environments, each runtime instance of eDiscovery Analyzer must be supported by its own independent installation of product files.

eDiscovery Analyzer's performance might be impacted when running in a virtual environment. This should be taken into account when sizing your virtual environment.
