Rational Team Concert repository database collocation recommendation

Preventive Service Planning

Abstract

This technote provides you with architecture considerations when installing IBM Rational Team Concert.

Content

When installing your Rational Team Concert repository database and the Application Server that will be running Rational Team Concert, consider the following recommendations:

  1. A fast and resilient connection between the application server and the database.
  2. Avoid using firewall between the application server and the database.
  3. Both the application server and the database should be on the same gigabit subnet

By not following the above recommendation, you may be exposed to:

  1. Server and repository DB on distant machines
Poor performances due to the connection speed between the Rational Team Concert server and its repository DB.
  2. Firewall
A firewall between the server and the database have a tendency to close the connections between the server and the database, resulting in 'reconnection' from the server to the database and in some cases, impact the speed of the build and/or induce deadlocks in the database which reduces the performance of the software.
