Error description
Customer is running HATS 7.0 and has Host Simulation Recording turned on in their production environment. Inermittently, they receive Out of Memory errors in the jvm, and review of heap dumps points to com/ibm/hats/common/connmgr/HostSimulatorMgr and com.ibm.hostsim.Recorder$RecHost.run for many instances using the heap analyzer tool.
Local fix
Turn off Host Simulation Recording
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: HATS customers using Host Simulation * * recording. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Out of Memory errors occur when * * running HATS Host Simulation runtime * * recording for long periods of time. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** HATS allows a customer to record a host simulation trace for runtime debug. This function uses a Java HashTable to store host simulation resources for each connection. HATS didn't release the host simulation resource from the hashtable when the application disconnected, so when a customer turned on this function in a long-running HATS environment, the out of memory condition can occur.
Problem conclusion
Remove the host simulation resource from HashTable when the HATS application is disconnected in the following cases: 1. User clicks the disconnect button from the HATS web page. 2. Session timeout, which is typically the case when a customer closes the browser directly without first disconnecting from the HATS application.
