APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • After an appliance has been up for more than 25 days, the
    logging system might stop logging events to all log targets
    (including the local logs). This issue affects the following
    releases:
    
    3.7.1.15
    3.7.2.11, 3.7.2.12, and 3.7.2.13
    3.7.3.10, 3.7.3.11, and 3.7.3.12
    3.8.0.4, 3.8.0.5, and 3.8.0.6
    3.8.1.0, 3.8.1.1, 3.8.1.2, 3.8.1.3 and 3.8.1.4
    
    Navigation to Status->System Logs, and clicking Refresh
    does not show any new log messages.

    Recommended Temporary Solution: to insure uninterrupted service,
    reload the appliance before or at 25 days of uptime.
    
    To determine the uptime for an appliance, perform either of the
    following tasks:
    In the WebGUI, select Status > Main > Date and Time
    From the CLI, enter the "show clock" command.
    For example:
     xi50# show clock
         Local Time: Tue Sep  7 14:43:39 2010
             Uptime: 38 days 20:06:28
          Time Zone: EDT
      Timezone Spec: EST5EDT,M3.2.0/2:00,M11.1.0/2:00
    

Local fix

  • Firmware reload will restart logging.
    
    To reload the appliance, perform either of the following tasks:
    In the WebGUI, select Administration > Main > System Control.
    Under Shutdown, choose Mode "Reload Firmware" and click on the
    Shutdown button.
    From the CLI, enter the commands "top; co; flash; shutdown
    reload"
    

Problem summary

  • After an appliance has been up for more than 25 days, the
    logging system might stop logging events to all log targets.

  • This fix will ensure that the logging system stays active, no
    matter what the time period.
