WebSphere Partner Gateway - Using UPDI Validator utility on standalone Integrated FTP Server

Troubleshooting


Problem

User have successfully performed UPDI Validator operations on WPG DMGR and HUB locations, though the execution of UPDI Validator utility fails on the machine where having only Integrated FTP Server (I-FTP) installed.

Symptom

Have earlier followed the UPDI Validator utility user guide and applied prerequisite tasks on this I-FTP machine. When running the updivalidator.sh/.bat script command line, it reports the following error:
"The system cannot fine the path specified. '"setupCmdLine.bat"' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

Cause

This problem occurs due to an incorrect presence of the "bin" folder under the <WPG I-FTP install location>. This technote describes the mandatory work-around that needs to be performed, before using Update Validator utility on the machine where only Integrated FTP Server component is installed.

Resolving The Problem

Please take the following procedures to enable the updivalidator CONFIG and VERIFY modes can be ran on this stand-alone Integrated FTP Server machine. (Always use a user that has administrator privilege; use 'root' user, in case of UNIX platforms.)

    1. Move the 'bin' and 'updivalidation' to a different backup directory:
      a. go to the <I-FTP install location>
      b. rename 'bin' as 'binBACKUP'
      c..rename 'updivalidation' as 'updivalidationBACKUP'
    2. Newly extract the "<version>_WPGUPDIValidator.zip" to the I-FTP install location.
    3. Now you should be able to run the updivalidator script with CONFIG mode and then VERIFY mode.
      PLEASE NOTE:
      • In case the WPG shared Common File System(CFS) is not accessible to the I-FTP machine due to business requirement, please manually create a dummy CFS directory on the I-FTP, then copy the entire 'UPDI' directory and content from the shared CFS to the I-FTP CFS directory. (in the following sample, the 'UPDI' was copied to <I-FTP>\CFS4UPDI directory.)
      • When prompts for JAVA installed location, please point the path to <I-FTP>\_jvm\jre
