    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Sending an illegal UTF-8 character *
    * causes the SIP server to stop *
    * responding to future messages. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
The problem occurs when sending an invalid SIP message to the
application server, over a TCP or TLS connection. The message
is invalid if its header contains a byte value larger than 127,
which is not a UTF-8 character. This causes the SIP container
to stop processing the message, and all messages that follow,
over the same connection, including valid messages.

Problem conclusion

  • The problem is fixed in the SIP container. With this fix, the
container drops the invalid message, and closes down the
connection. If the invalid message is a request, the server
replies to it with a 400 (Bad Request) response.
This allows the client to create a new connection and send
future messages over the new connection.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 1.0.0.13 for the Feature Pack for Communications
Enabled Applications. Please refer to the Recommended Updates
