IV39740: MQ PRODUCES AN "OK" EVENT MESSAGE WHEN THE INTERNAL SERVICE TIMER IS NOT STARTED

Error description

  • When using performance events with MQBACK in WebSphere MQ, the
internal service timer is not started and the time taken is 0.

However, WebSphere MQ thinks it is shorter than the service
interval setting, then producing the "OK" event message.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Users of WebSphere MQ that are using the Queue Service interval
events of the Performance Event function.

    Platforms affected:
All Distributed (iSeries, all Unix and Windows)
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
The Queue Service Interval Events are generated when the time
taken between an MQPUT and 'get' operation is greater or less
than the service time interval, dependent on the Queue Service
Interval (OK or HIGH) on the Queue at that time.

When a message was put on the Queue via the MQBACK call rather
than a MQPUT then the internal timer used to determine service
interval was not started. This is correct as it is only an
MQPUT that defines when the service interval timer starts.
However, when the Queue Service Interval was set to OK on the
Queue a OK event message was generated on the following MQGET
after theMQBACK call regardless as to what time the MQGET call
    was made.

Problem conclusion

  • This APAR solves the problem by not generating the OK event
message when a message was retrieved via an 'get' operation when
that message was not placed on the queue via an MQPUT call.
