Error description

  • The MQ Console is being used to administer an IBM MQ for z/OS
queue manager. When attempting to modify the attributes of a
queue on the queue manager that is part of a queue sharing group
(QSG), the MQ Console reports the following error when the
    "Save" button is pressed:

    Failed to update object MQWB2013E:
MQRC2085: IBM MQ call failed with compcode '2' ('MQCC_FAILED')
    reason '2085' ('MQRC_UNKNOWN_OBJECT_NAME')

and the attributes are not changed.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
    This issue affects users of:

    - The IBM MQ 9.2 New Web Console.
    - The IBM MQ 9.3 Console.

who are administering queue, topic and channel objects on IBM MQ
for z/OS queue managers, where the objects are shared (ie. the
QSGDISP attribute for the objects is set to a value other than
    QMGR).

    Platforms affected:
    z/OS

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
The IBM MQ 9.2 New Web Console, and the IBM MQ 9.3 Console, use
Programmable Command Format (PCF) messages to interact with
queue managers. Whenever a user performs an operation, such as
trying to modify a queue attribute or deleting a channel, the
user interface will build a PCF message representing the
operation and then send it to the queue manager. When the queue
manager receives the message, it will process it and perform the
necessary steps to carry out the operation, before sending a
    reply back.

Now, when either the IBM MQ 9.2 New Web Console or the IBM MQ
9.3 Console was being used to administer queues, topics or
channel objects on a z/OS queue manager, where the objects were
defined in the z/OS shared repository, the PCF messages
generated by the user interface did not include the QSGDISP
parameter. This meant that when the queue manager received the
messages and tried to perform the requested operation, it
assumed the object being administered was local. However,
because the object was shared, the operation failed and the
queue manager sent back a reply containing reason code 2085
(MQRC_UNKNOWN_OBJECT_NAME), which resulted in the user interface
    reporting the error:

Failed to update object MQWB2013E: MQRC2085: IBM MQ call failed
    with compcode '2' ('MQCC_FAILED') reason '2085'
    ('MQRC_UNKNOWN_OBJECT_NAME')

    to the user.

Problem conclusion

  • To resolve this issue, the IBM MQ 9.2 New Web Console and the MQ
9.3 Console have been updated so that:

    - If they are being used to administer either a queue, topic or
channel object on a z/OS queue manager.
    - And the object is defined in the z/OS shared repository

then they will include the QSGDISP attribute on the PCF messages
that they send to the queue manager. This ensures that the queue
manager is able to correctly process the operations contained
    within the messages.
