IT38799: Queue manager ends unexpectedly with FDC Probe Id HL214091 and error code hrcE_MQLP_NOSPACE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When using Circular logging, the queue manager crashes and
  generates the following
  failure data capture (FDC) records which indicate the queue
  manager log space is full:
  amqzmuc0  HL214091  mllWriteLogPages    hrcE_MQLP_NOSPACE
  amqrmppa  HL006003  hlgWriteLogRecord  hrcE_UNEXPECTED_ERROR
  
  The following FDC records can also be seen along with the
  previous ones:
  amqrmppa  AL004008  almLogIt           xecF_E_UNEXPECTED_RC
  hrcE_LOG_DAMAGED
  amqrmppa  AL004011  almLogIt           xecF_E_UNEXPECTED_RC
  hrcE_LOG_DAMAGED
  
  IBM MQ diagnostics indicate the log was not full when the queue
  manager ended.
  

Local fix

• Do not use RESET QMGR TYPE(REDUCELOG)
  Use Linear logging with automatic media image recording and
  automatic log management.
  

Problem summary

  USERS AFFECTED:
  Users running queue managers with circular logging under certain
  load conditions that trigger the queue manager to often use and
  release secondary log extents, and users who then run "RESET
  QMGR TYPE(REDUCELOG)"
  command to release log extents.

  PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
  A defect in IBM MQ log space management meant that the queue
  manager incorrectly detected the queue manager log was full when
  the log was actually not full and this resulted in the queue
  manager ending unexpectedly.
  

Problem conclusion

• The IBM MQ queue manager logic has been modified to fix the
  defect in log space management.
