Error description
When an appliance user performed power source maintenance work, the MQ appliance model M2001 (machine type 8436-55X) alert LED in the front panel was illuminated. "show ipmi-sel" showed the PSU1 or PSU2 had "Output Failure" , but related PSU's LED was green, which means that PSU was still in the normal state and working good. The recreate procedure: - Target unit: MQ Appliance M2001 - Make sure two PSUs are in the good state. - Make sure the Alert LED is OFF. - Make sure IPMI-SEL does not have any "output failure" events for PSUs. - Steps: - Remove the power cable for PSU-1, wait 2 seconds, and connect the power cable. - Check the PSU LED, it should be solid GREEN. - Check the Alert LED, it should be ON. - Login DP CLI, issues "show sensors-other", the result is: idg(config)# show sensors-other Name Value Status ----------------------------- ----- ------- Intrusion Detected false ok Power Supply 1 AC Lost false ok Power Supply 1 Output Failure true failure Power Supply 2 AC Lost false ok Power Supply 2 Output Failure false ok - Issue "show ipmi-sel", you should get "powerSupplyFailureDetected" event for PSU-1: 111 2020/03/13 12:21:34 0x0002 systemEvent 0x0000 timestampClockSync none asserted 112 2020/03/23 06:46:12 0x0002 powerSupply 0x002E PSU_1-Status powerSupplyFailureDetected none asserted 113 90 seconds uptime 0x0002 systemEvent 0x0000 timestampClockSync none asserted

Problem summary
**************************************************************** USERS AFFECTED: All users of MQ appliance M2001 models Platforms affected: MultiPlatform **************************************************************** PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: MQ appliance firmware needs to be updated to upgrade the M2001 BMC version to v1.32 to fix the following problems. - When removing the power cable and reconnecting it within 6 seconds, it cause the VIN_UV_FAUL bit is ON. - This VIN_UV_FAUL bit means the outside power source has problem, not a problem in the PSU itself, which means the PSU itself is OK. - The reason for this bit ON is due to PSU has a capacitor, if removing and connecting the power cable within 6 seconds, there are still some power in the capacitor, so that this bit is ON, instead of AC Lost event. - If removing the connecting the power cable > 6 seconds, due to the capacitor released all power, the AC Lost event occurs. - This new BMC v1.32 is to ignore the VIN_UV_FAUL monitoring, since it only means the outside power source's problem, not the PSU.
Problem conclusion
MQ appliance has been updated to upgrade the M2001 BMC version v1.32. --------------------------------------------------------------- The fix is targeted for delivery in the following PTFs: Version Maintenance Level v9.1 CD TBC. v9.1 LTS 9.1.0.6 The latest available maintenance can be obtained from 'WebSphere MQ Recommended Fixes' http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg27006037 If the maintenance level is not yet available information on its planned availability can be found in 'WebSphere MQ Planned Maintenance Release Dates' http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg27006309 ---------------------------------------------------------------
