APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Heap memory use from one or more amqrmppa or C client processes
is seen to rise in an uncontrolled manner while using AMS. If
the queue manager is not restarted then resource error FDCs may
be seen and the queue manager or C client application may be
    unable to continue to function.

Local fix

  • The impact of the problem can be lessened by restarting the
affected C client application (if using client-side AMS
interception), or queue manager (if using MCA interception) to
reclaim memory. Reducing the turnover of connections and open
AMS protected queue handles will also help to reduce memory use.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Users of the IBM MQ AMS functionality where the quality of
protection is set to Confidentiality may be affected by this
    problem.

    Platforms affected:
    MultiPlatform

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
Memory allocated by IBM MQ to support the AMS functionality was
not being freed. This memory leak may be seen in the amqrmppa
process, or in a C client application if client-side AMS is
    being used.

Problem conclusion

  • The IBM MQ code was modified to ensure that allocated memory was
    freed.
