APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • MQ 7.0 JMS clients affected by APAR IV36766 send a request
to a queue manager which causes FFSTs to be issued and the
    connection to be closed.

Local fix

  • Upgrade JMS client to a supported level.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Users connecting V7.0 JMS clients to an MQ 9.1 queue manager are

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
A V7.0 JMS client connected to V9.1 queue manager and opened a
queue object, a protocol error was detected by the queue manager
leading to an AMQ9504 error being logged, a probe RM680037 FFST
and the connection was ended. The JMS client reported a
    JMSException with RC=2009 (MQRC_CONNECTION_BROKEN).

Problem conclusion

  • APAR IV36766 originally identified a problem where the V7.0 JMS
client supplied an invalid protocol flow to open an object on
the queue manager. Whilst this issue was identified and fixed in
the JMS client, this older JMS level is still prevalent,
particularly from older resource adapters bundled in WebSphere
Application Server. This APAR changes the queue manager to
safely tolerate and respond using the shorter request flows.
