Error description

  • Issuing STOP CHANNEL MODE(TERMINATE) on a channel that has ended
abruptly causes the channel to hang. The channel may
permanently display STOPPING status on Windows.

There is not way to end the channel in question at this point,
neither using FORCE or TERMINATE options.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Users issuing STOP CHANNEL MODE(TERMINATE) on any distributed
    platform.

    Platforms affected:
    MultiPlatform

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
If a channel thread is unresponsive, users may resort to STOP
CHANNEL MODE(TERMINATE) to forcibly end the thread. On all
distributed platforms the progression to stop the channel may be
delayed indefinitely due to a logic error. In addition, on the
Windows platform, the termination of the thread occurs but it
does not cause the cleanup routines for MQ resources to be
called, this can cause the channel status entry to remain
    permanently in STOPPING state.

Problem conclusion

  • The logic used to terminate a channel thread on the Windows
platform is modified to ensure thread cleanup routines will
execute. Additionally the logic on all distributed platforms is
corrected to wait for a short period of time for the target
channel thread to move in a safe code block to terminate the
    thread.
