APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The dmpmqcfg command connects to a queue manager and the error
    reported to stderr is;

     AMQ8921E: MQCB call failed with reason code 2298.

    Using the mqrc tool, the 2298 return code is defined as
    "Function not supported";

     2298  0x000008fa  MQRC_FUNCTION_NOT_SUPPORTED

    The dmpmqcfg command also returns a non zero return code (71)
    indicating an unexpected error occurred and the command failed.
    In this type of failure no data is written to stdout, this is
    expected behaviour.

    dmpmqcfg should fallback to use MQGET if asynchronous consume is
    not available, for example on a non-multiplexed connection.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
    Users using dmpmqcfg to connect to a queue manager using a
    client connection (-c) are potentially affected, if the client
    connection does not permit asynchronous consume.

    Platforms affected:
    MultiPlatform

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
    dmpmqcfg uses MQ's asynchronous consume feature to retrieve PCF
    responses from the command server. When dmpmqcfg is connected
    using client bindings however, it may not be possible to use
    asynchronous consume. This is true for example when SHARECNV(0)
    is negotiated.

Problem conclusion

  • Asynchronous consume will continue to be used when available,
    however dmpmqcfg will fallback to use MQGET if asynchronous
    consume is not available.
