APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • On the IBM MQ Appliance, runmqras capture sections which use the
amqldmpa command, such as the example below, do not obtain the
    amqldmpa output

    runmqras -section nodefault,dap,kernel,logger,trace
       -qmlist QMgrName

runmqras completes successfully, but the files contain the text
"amqldmpa failed to open output file".

Local fix

  • On the appliance, amqldmpa may be run directly from the mqcli
    with appropriate arguments:
    .
    amqldmpa -m QMNAME -c H -d 15
    amqldmpa -m QMNAME -c K -d 15
    amqldmpa -m QMNAME -c A -o 16 -d 15
    amqldmpa -m QMNAME -c A -o 4 -d 15
    amqldmpa -m QMNAME -c A -o 2 -d 15
    amqldmpa -m QMNAME -c A -d 15
    .
This will generate data under the QM's data directory, which
can either be downloaded manually, or supplied via an
    additional runmqras.
Outputs are named in the format [component]Dump.[pid].1,
    for example:
    KernelDump.233812.1

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
This issue affects MQ Appliance users running the runmqras
command to collect amqldmpa data. The issue affects MQ v8.0 and
    MQ v9.1 LTS

    Platforms affected:
    MultiPlatform

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
The runmqras command had created a temporary directory with
incorrect permissions, which prevented the amqldmpa command from
successfully writing its output files. This resulted in the
"amqldmpa failed to open output file" error message in the
    amqldmpa.stdout file.

Problem conclusion

  • The runmqras command on the IBM MQ Appliance has been corrected
to ensure that the temporary directory used by the amqldmpa
    command has the correct permissions.
