APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When using MQ with the RDQM High Availability feature and a
symbolic link for the data directory (/var/mqm), the queue
manager will not fail over to the remote appliance. MQ did not
display the fact that this would occur and was not explicit in
letting the user know that symbolic links are not supported.

Local fix

  • Do not use a symbolic link for the /var/mqm directory.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Any users of the MQ RDQM HA solution with a symbolic link set up
    on their /var/mqm/ directory.

    Platforms affected:
    Linux on x86-64

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
At the time of issuing this APAR, RDQM HA does not support
symbolic links on the MQ data directory (/var/mqm). The MQ
system created the Queue Manager successfully and did not inform
the user that this setup is not supported. Failover of the Queue
Manager to a remote node would fail and it would be unknown to
    the user why this happened.

Problem conclusion

  • The code has been modified such that creating RDQM Queue
Managers under a symbolic linked data directory will now fail
    with an error message (AMQ7077E).
