APAR status

Error description

  • Failure Data Capture (FDC) records are generated indicating LOG
    FULL are reported during queue manager shutdown.
    The following FDCs indicating object damage might also be
    generated upon queue
    manager restart.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
    All users of IBM MQ and likely when the queue depth is high.
    
    
    Platforms affected:
    MultiPlatform

    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
    An error condition when compacting queue file data structures
    during shutdown was not correctly handled. This led to a failure
    to check that there was sufficient log space available to
    continue with the compaction. If the log space was exhausted
    during queue compaction, the potential existed for the queue
    file being compacted to become damaged.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The queue manager's queue compaction routines has been modified
    to add an additional check during queue compaction.
    
    This is an extension of checks added previously under APAR
    IT16268, which fixed a separate logic error in  queue compaction
    routines that might cause object damage.
