Error description

  • When runmqsc encounters an MQRC_SUB_INHIBITED error, a hex
return code is returned instead of a useful error message:

    DEFINE SUB(X) DEST(X) TOPICSTR(X)

    Resulting error is:
AMQ8101: WebSphere MQ error (9C7) has occurred.

Local fix

  • If the administrative node has no parent administrative topic
object then it will inherit its attributes from
    SYSTEM.BASE.TOPIC.

To work around this issue then either set the SUB attribute of
SYSTEM.BASE.TOPIC to ENABLED, or define a parent administrative
topic object for the node with a SUB attribute set to ENABLED.

Problem summary

    USERS AFFECTED:
Users of the DEFINE SUB command may observe this issue

    Platforms affected:
    MultiPlatform

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
If no administrative topic exists between the root topic
SYSTEM.BASE.TOPIC and a topic node lower in the hierarchy, then
the topic node will inherit the attributes of the
    SYSTEM.BASE.TOPIC.

If the SUB attribute of SYSTEM.BASE.TOPIC is set to DISABLED
then the DEFINE SUB runmqsc command will fail with error code
MQRC_SUB_INHIBITED if the TOPICSTR attribute points to a node
whose administrative node resolves to topic SYSTEM.BASE.TOPIC.

There is no error message defined to describe MQRC_SUB_INHIBITED
and instead the following is displayed:

AMQ8101: WebSphere MQ error (9C7) has occurred.

Problem conclusion

  • The runmqsc code has been updated so that a new error message is
displayed if a runmqsc command fails with MQRC_SUB_INHIBITED.
The following error is now displayed in runmqsc:

    AMQ8928: Subscription creation inhibited.
