APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The packet-trace command 'packet-capture-advanced' is not
    available
on the IBM MQ Appliance and so packet trace cannot be taken via
    the
    command line interface.

Local fix

  • The workaround involves copying scripts which contain the
commands, to the IBM MQ appliance:

Creates 2 files on a local machine.

    - The first file named "start_ip_trace.txt", which contains the
    following single line:

    packet-capture-advanced eth0 temporary:eth0-trace 600 10000 1000

    - The second file named "stop_ip_trace.txt", with the following
    single line:

    no packet-capture-advanced eth0 temporary:eth0-trace

    - Copy the files to an IBM MQ Appliance using the CLI:

      mqa(config)# copy scp://myuser@myipaddr/start_ip_trace.txt
    temporary:
      mqa(config)# copy scp://myuser@myipaddr/stop_ip_trace.txt
    temporary:

Alternatively, the File Management tab in the
Web UI can be used to upload the files.

The scripts can be executed from the CLI are as follows:

    - To start the trace:
    mqa(config)# exec temporary:start_ip_trace.txt

    - To stop the trace:
    mqa(config)# exec temporary:stop_ip_trace.txt

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Users of the IBM MQ Appliance who have a need to take a network
packet trace will be affected by this problem.

    Platforms affected:
    MultiPlatform

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
There was no way of starting and stopping packet trace via the
IBM MQ Appliance command line interface.

Problem conclusion

  • The "packet-capture-advanced" and "no packet-capture-advanced"
commands have been made available on the IBM MQ command line
interface. These commands are standard DataPower commands which
should have been made available on the IBM MQ Appliance but had
    been disabled.

The IBM MQ Appliance documentation will also be updated to add
    these two new commands.
