APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When connecting to a remote queue manager using the MQ Explorer,
an "Access not permitted" error message is returned to the user
if the password is greater than 12 characters and the option
"Use saved password" has been set.

Local fix

  • Use the option "Prompt for password" within the MQ Explorer
instead of using the saved password.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
This issue affects users of the:

     - IBM MQ Explorer V9
     - IBM MQ Explorer V8

The problems occurs when the user tries to save a password that
is longer than 12 characters long to the Explorer password
    store.

    Platforms affected:
Windows, Linux on x86-64, Linux on x86

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
The MQ Explorer would not connect to a remote queue manager when
using the option "Save Password". If this option was used, a
"Access not permitted" error message was displayed.

The problem only affected cases when the user specified password
was longer than 12 characters. Passwords longer than 12
characters could not be stored internally within the MQ Explorer
password store, subsequently resulting in the failed
authentication attempts. The user was not made aware when using
a password with more than 12 characters that the password had
not been stored - however when the password was retrieved for a
subsequent authentication attempt that authentication would
    fail.

Problem conclusion

  • The MQ Explorer password store has been updated such that it now
permits a maximum of 256 characters to be saved to store the
    password.
