Error description
When using the IBM MQ Explorer and opening the "Extended" queue manager properties page of a local queue manager that does not have the ErrorLogSize property configured in its qm.ini file, the value of field "Error log size" displayed by the MQ Explorer contains the default value of 262144. Removing the 262144 value, a yellow warning icon appears beside the empty field. Moving the cursor upon the warning icon, a tooltip appears with the text: "Input out of range (0 - 2147483647)" The default value 262144 and value range (0 - 2147483647) are not correct.
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** USERS AFFECTED: This issue affects users of the: - IBM MQ V8 Explorer - IBM MQ V9 Explorer who are modifying a local queue manager's "Error log size" property in the "Extended" pane of the queue manager Properties window and that local queue manager did not contain an ErrorLogSize entry in its qm.ini file. Platforms affected: Windows, Linux on x86-64, Linux on x86 **************************************************************** PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: From WebSphere MQ V7.1, the default size of the queue manager's error log files increased from 256KB to 2MB, however the IBM MQ Explorer was not updated to reflect the change in the default size for queue manager's at this version or higher. The MQ Explorer displayed the default value as 262144 rather than 2097152. Furthermore, when the user did not enter a value for the queue manager's "Error log size" property in the "Extended" pane of the queue manager "Properties" window, the small warning icon that appeared to the left of the box showed an incorrect range of values for this property when the cursor was placed over the icon. The range was shown as accepting values from 0 to 2147483647 but the correct range is 32768 to 2147483648, as per the documentation in the following Knowledge Center page: http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSFKSJ_9.0.0/com.ibm. mq.con.doc/q019020_.htm Note that the maximum value in the tool-tip was 1 less than the maximum defined in the Knowledge Center page, "Queue manager error logs". This was due to a limitation with the Eclipse widget used to implement the GUI value "spinner" object representing the queue manager's error log size property as the maximum size permitted was the maximum of a Java int, primitive which is 2147483647.
Problem conclusion
The IBM MQ Explorer has been updated such that the correct default size for the queue manager error logs is shown in the "Extended" pane of the queue manager "Properties" window. A custom Eclipse widget has also been defined for the queue manager "Error log size" property that will permit the full range of valid values for the size of the queue manager error logs, which is 32768 to 2147483648. This custom widget no longer displays a tool-tip when the value in the text field is invalid. However, when a different queue manager extended property is selected, or the Apply or "OK" button is clicked, Explorer will change the value in the field to be either: - the maximum permitted value if the value that was entered is greater than 2147483648 or - the minimum permitted value if the value that was entered is less than 32768 --------------------------------------------------------------- The fix is targeted for delivery in the following PTFs: Version Maintenance Level v8.0 8.0.0.7 v9.0 CD 9.0.2 v9.0 LTS 9.0.0.1 The latest available maintenance can be obtained from 'WebSphere MQ Recommended Fixes' http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg27006037 If the maintenance level is not yet available information on its planned availability can be found in 'WebSphere MQ Planned Maintenance Release Dates' http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg27006309 ---------------------------------------------------------------
