Error description

  • When issuing a ping channel command on WMQ 7.5, it returns
an AMQ9641 error with a blank channel and host:

AMQ9641: Remote CipherSpec error for channel '' to host ''.

The same AMQ9641 error in the AMQERRnn.LOG file shows:

AMQ9641: Remote CipherSpec error for channel 'chl.name'
      to host 'ip address(port)'.

The expectation is that the AMQ9641 error from the ping
channel command would show the same details as reported
    in the AMQERRnn.LOG entry.

A similar lack of inserts is observed when the AMQ9636 or
AMQ9643 messages are reported on the runmqsc console in response
    to a ping channel command.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
This issue affects users of WebSphere MQ who are using the ping
channel command to evaluate the status of an MQ channel secured
    with SSL/TLS.

    Platforms affected:
    MultiPlatform

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
A coding omission meant that the appropriate values were not
inserted into the message prior to it being displayed on the
    runmqsc console output.

Problem conclusion

  • The runmqsc code has been updated so that the inserts are
correctly applied to the AMQ9641 message in the event of the
PING CHANNEL command failing due to a cipher specification
    mismatch.

The code has also been updated to correctly insert the channel
name into the AMQ9636 and AMQ9643 messages when reported on the
    runmqsc console.
