Error description

  • When editing a transfer item, defined within a resource monitor
    or transfer template, that contains a data set with optional
    attributes separated by semicolons, the entire definition is
    added to the "Data set" name field. This included the name of
    the data set and all of the attributes, for example
    "//TRANS.FILE.TXT;RECFM(V,B);BLKSIZE(6144);LRECL(1028);SPACE(5,1
    )". The optional data set attributes list remained empty.

    This resulted in the WebSphere MQ Explorer Managed File Transfer
    plug-in "Add Transfer Item" wizard reporting the error:

    Data set name
    //TRANS.FILE.TXT;RECFM(V,B);BLKSIZE(6144);LRECL(1028);SPACE(5,1)
     is invalid.

    and preventing the user from clicking "Okay" after editing the
    transfer item.

Local fix

  • Delete all of the attributes from the data set name field such
    that, for example, the entry is changed from:

    //TRANS.FILE.TXT;RECFM(V,B);BLKSIZE(6144);LRECL(1028);SPACE(5,1)

    to

    //TRANS.FILE.TXT

    and redefine all of the data set attributes using the add
    attribute wizard on the transfer item page.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
    This issue affects users of the:

      - WebSphere MQ v7.5 Explorer Managed File Transfer plug-in
      - IBM MQ v8.0 Explorer Managed File Transfer plug-in

    who create and then edit transfer items within a Resource
    Monitor or Transfer Template definition that contains a data set
    (sequential or partitioned) which also includes one or more
    optional attributes.

    Platforms affected:
    MultiPlatform

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
    Resource Monitor and Transfer Template definitions, after being
    created, are stored in an XML format. When a Resource Monitor
    or Transfer Template is subsequently edited via the WebSphere MQ
    Explorer, the XML definition is parsed to create the internal
    Java objects for that Resource Monitor or Transfer Template.

    If the XML definition for the included transfer item was a data
    set (either a sequential or partitioned data set) the WebSphere
    MQ Explorer did not parse the data set item to remove any
    optional attributes and list them in the dedicate attributes
    list for the transfer item. For example, in the following XML
    definition for a destination transfer item that is a data set:

            <destination exist="error" type="dataset">

    <file>//TRANS.FILE.TXT;RECFM(V,B);BLKSIZE(6144);LRECL(1028);SPAC
    E(5,1)</file>
            </destination>

    the WebSphere MQ Explorer would populate the data set name field
    with the value:

    //TRANS.FILE.TXT;RECFM(V,B);BLKSIZE(6144);LRECL(1028);SPACE(5,1)

    This then resulted in the WebSphere MQ Explorer showing an error
    at the top of the "Add Transfer Item" wizard page stating the
    data set name was invalid.

Problem conclusion

  • The WebSphere MQ Explorer Managed File Transfer plug-in has been
    updated such that, when editing a transfer item in a Resource
    Monitor or Transfer Template, any optional attributes included
    on a data set transfer item are now parsed. The name of the
    data set, without the optional attributes, is populated within
    the "Data set:" field in the "Add Transfer Item" wizard page and
    the individual attributes are listed within the "Data set
    attributes" section.
