IT08506: MQ V 8.0 : JAVA JMS COMPONENTS NOT UPGRADED BY FIXPACK INSTALLATION

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• A user installs MQ 8.0.0.0 with only the MFT_agent selected.
  This automatically also installs Java Messaging for MQ which is
  needed for MFT.
  The user then installs MQ 8 fixpack 2 (8.0.0.2) and notices that
  the MFT component is upgraded to 8.0.0.2 but the Java components
  are not.
  

Local fix

• Ensure that the Java messaging component is manually selected
  for installation. Then reinstall the product and fix pack
  
  If using an MQParms.ini response file, the file contents should
  be modified to:
  
    ADDLOCAL="MFT_Agent,JavaMsg"
    REMOVE="Server,Explorer,Toolkit"

  USERS AFFECTED:
  This issue affects users applying an IBM MQ v8 fix pack on
  Windows to an IBM MQ installation with the Managed File Transfer
  components, but not the Java messaging components, selected for
  a custom installation.
  
  
  Platforms affected:

  PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
  An incorrect relationship defined between components meant that
  the fix pack installer did not correctly honor the prerequisite
  dependency on the Java messaging component when applying
  maintenance to the Managed File Transfer component.
  
  This meant that if the user had explicitly requested not to
  install the Java messaging component, but had requested the
  Managed File Transfer component, then the Managed File Transfer
  component was updated by the fix pack installer, but the Java
  messaging component was not.
  

Problem conclusion

• The relationship defined between these components in the fix
  pack installer configuration has been updated so that this
  prerequisite dependency is taken into account when applying
  maintenance.
