Error description

  • While installing the WebSphere MQ fix pack 7.1.0.1, if the
option "advanced installation option display/change" is
selected, the backup directory was created in the following
    path:C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere MQ\Maint_0.1
On a 64 bit machine however, the default installation path is
    C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\WebSphere MQ
This causes AMQ4760 error during installation. The amqicsdn.txt
file shows the installer failed to create a backup
    directory:

    Starting file backup
    Looking for: 'C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere MQ\Maint_0.1'
    Looking for: 'C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere MQ\Maint_0.1'
    (DoCsdBackup) ***Cannot create backup directory
    'C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere MQ\Maint_0.1' - one or more
intermediate directories do not exist (ERROR_PATH_NOT_FOUND(3))

If option "advanced installation option display/change" is not
selected then the backup directory was created in the
    following directory:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\WebSphere MQ\Maint_0.1
and, the fix pack installation succeeded.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
This problem exists only on 7.1.0.x fix packs. It has already
been corrected in WebSphere MQ v7.5.

    Platforms affected:
    Windows

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
In order to recreate the problem,

    - Install the 7.1.0.1 fix pack in "load and apply files" mode.
    - select "View/change advanced install options"
    - For installation name leave the field blank and click "Next"
the next screen "Specify Backup Directory" has pre-filled the
"Location of backup directory" input field with the default path
    for the backup directory
    ("C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere MQ\Maint_0.1").

However this is the path for a standard install location on
Windows 32-bit. On a 64 bit machine this is not the default path
    and hence the installation fails.

Problem conclusion

  • The fix ensures that the field "Location of backup directory" is
left blank unless the installation name is entered, in which
case a registry lookup will populate the field with the correct
    value for that installation.
