Error description

  • A WebSphere MQ V7 Client application receives a memory
exception and then terminates after being denied access to a
queue manager by a server-side security exit.

The client also has a security exit defined.

A FDC file is written by the application process, showing:

    Probe Id XC130031
    Component xehExceptionHandler.

It will also show similar information to this:

    MQM Function Stack
    MQCONN
    trmzstMQCONNX
    reqDoConnect
    reqConnectChl
    reqFreeSess

Problem summary

    USERS AFFECTED:
Users of WebSphere MQ client application programs, where there
    is a client-side security exit.

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
A client connection can be ended early in its life, for example
during the security exchange that takes place between security
    exits.

There is a situation where this can happen during startup of a
channel that is in principle eligible for sharing
conversations, but is the first such channel. In this situation,
the full initialization of WebSphere MQ's internal
client state has not taken place.

In this situation, the early ending of the channel leads to a
code path being taken to clean up WebSphere MQ's internal
client state relating to a client-side security exit. In doing
this, a pointer is de-referenced, but the pointer is null.

Problem conclusion

  • WebSphere MQ code has been corrected to avoid de-referencing a
null pointer in the case described above.

A workaround for this problem is to set SHARECNV(0) on the
    channel definition being used.
